Warren Gerds/Critic at Large: ‘Mama Mia!' Opening This Weekend at Broadway Theatre in De Pere

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) - The musical “Mama Mia!” will be presented by Birder Players in eight performances starting Friday, Feb. 1 (sold out), in Broadway Theatre, 123 S. Broadway. Info: birderstudio.org.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2; 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6, 7, 8; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9. Check availability.

According to a press release: The show is built around songs of the popular group ABBA. Featured is a book by Catherine Johnson and music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.

Set on a Greek island, the story is about a young woman’s search for her birth father. On the eve of her wedding, her quest brings together three men from her mother’s past in a saga of love, laughter and friendship.

Performing in the Birder Players production are 12 principals supported by 16 supporting actors and a six-voice ensemble.

In principal roles are Randi Fay, Ana Lissa Bakken, Cole Styczynski, Mark Jackson, Warren Elliott, Ann Preiss Gray, Natalie Rein, Jon Weiss, Chad Lemerande, Zeb Metzler, Sam Van Beek, Maria Hiddendael and Becca Shaberg.

Alicia Birder is producer, director and choreographer, with Dudley Birder as associate producer, Chad Lemerande as music director and Anna Allen and Ann Preiss Gray as assistant choreographers.
