More than 58,000 Americans were killed during the Vietnam War. The impact it left on those alive today still sticks with them.
On Sunday, 52 local veterans are leaving Wisconsin for a return back to Vietnam to hopefully heal some of the wounds they suffered both physically and mentally.
Local 5’s Nate Stewart talked with brothers Dale and Tom VanLanen, who both served as infantryman in the Marines, and saw first-hand how emotional the experience is going to be for them.
The vets return to Menasha High School on Saturday, March 9th. The fieldhouse doors open at 5 p.m., and the veterans are expected to arrive between 6 and 7 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend and give them a proper welcome home.
Be sure to follow the Old Glory Honor Flight Facebook page for continued updates on the journey.
Local 5 salutes all our veterans for their sacrifices. We can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done to protect and serve our country.
