A Green Bay native and one of the last surviving servicemen from the attack on Pearl Harbor has passed away.

Firman Balza joined the 34th division of the U.S. Naval Reserves in Green Bay at 17-years-old back in 1940. He later entered the Navy a few months later and was assigned to the USS Maryland as a 2nd class gunners mate, and was later promoted to first class.

The ship then headed to Pearl Harbor in April of 1941, and Firman was aboard it when the Japanese attacked on December 7th.

Firman was 95-years-old.
