The Troop Group Sends Care Packages Overseas All Year Long

Hometown Heroes

Packed, sealed and shipped with love. The Troop Group works out of Donna Nickel’s basement all year-round, packing boxes with virtually everything you can think of, and sending them to our servicemen and women overseas.

The ladies are members of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hortonville. They formed in 2005 when Donna’s son Joe, an Army veteran, was sent over to Iraq. After promising him that she wouldn’t cry, she turned to God and her prayers were answered.

Donna says the group packages gifts all year-round, 2-3 times a month for at least four hours. She adds that they have reached about 42,000 individuals since they started. Donna is so committed, she says she puts in at least 1,000 hours a year of her free time into making the operation possible.

Donations from the public are always needed. To donate items, or to learn more about The Troop Group’s mission, contact Donna at (920) 779-6229.
