Burn ban for all of Brown County

Burning Restrictions Go Into Effect_-176288342378921496

BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Brown County Fire Departments are instituting Burn Bans effective immediately.

The area is experiencing abnormally dry conditions; the fire danger is “high.”

The departments will not be issuing any burn permits until the conditions improve.  The burn permits that have already been issued are no longer valid.  Permits will be re-issued when it is safe to resume permitted burning.  Charcoal and gas grills can be used if utilized correctly and on a flat surface.

Any reports of unauthorized burning of any kind during this time will result in the fire being extinguished by Fire Department personnel with possible monetary charges for service and/or fines.

The restrictions include:

·     No Campfires except where municipalities allow by ordinance (contact your municipality)

·     No burning of combustible materials in the outdoors (fireworks, tiki torches, etc)

·     No smoking in the outdoors (smoking in non-combustible areas is allowed, example – driveway)

·     Charcoal and propane grills may be used in the immediate vicinity of a residence if placed on a non-combustible surface (driveway, patio, gravel, etc).

·     No outdoor debris burning (this includes burn barrels, prescribed burns, and debris piles)

·     No disposal of burning materials into the outdoors (matches, cigarettes, ashes, charcoal briquettes, etc)

These restrictions are in place for all of Brown County including all incorporated towns, cities, and villages.  The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.  We will need multiple, significant rain events in order to lower the existing fire danger.

The intent of the restrictions is to raise overall awareness of the fire danger and to limit the number of ignition sources.

The attached brochure should help with questions.  Thanks for your help in getting the word out.
