De Pere celebrates despite the rain

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Celebrate De Pere went on Sunday night—even in the rain.

And organizers are working to remind people why we celebrate Memorial Day.

The celebration serves as a big fundraiser for the Desert Veterans of Wisonsin.

The group’s mission is to provide aid to veterans organizations and individuals needing a little help.

The group’s president said being a veteran, and watching other vets returning home, has him viewing Memorial Day a bit differently.

“Since I became a member of the Desert Veterans of Wisconsin Memorial Day has become more sentimental to me,” said Andy Bussiere, president of the Desert Veterans of Wisconsin.

The rain didn’t keep the bands from playing or the rides from running.

And although there may have been fewer people out Sunday—there were plenty of people having fun.

“I like the rides and hanging out with friends no matter what if it rains,” said Green Bay resident Josh Acevedo. “It’s wet, but its still fun.”

If the weather scared you off Sunday, there’s still the opportunity to check out Celebrate De Pere and donate to the Desert Veterans of Wisconsin Monday.
