Deadly crash in Waushara County

MARION, WI (WFRV) — One person is dead after a two-vehicle accident in Waushara County.

The Waushara County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of State Road 21 and County Road Z in Marion.  The crash involved a van and a car.

Deputies say a passenger from the van was ejected from the vehicle and was later pronounced dead the hospital.  No names have been released yet, pending notification of family.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, Redgranite Police Department, Waushara County EMS, Redgranite Fire and Rescue, Theda Star Air Medical, and Fight for Life Fond Du Lac assisted at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.

This is the second fatal crash of the year in Waushara County.  The first happened early Saturday morning after James Shafer, 56, was killed after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike.  The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and later turned himself in to police.  The suspect is lodged in the Waushara County Jail.
