HealthWatch: Training for the Spooky Sprint

Green Bay (WFRV) So you’ve decided to start running and get in shape~ but are not sure where to start. A personal trainer can set you on the right path to your future healthy you.
 
In December, Amy Woodworth decided to get get healthy, “I started running because I wanted to have a healthier lifestyle,” said Amy Woodworth.
 
Amy new she couldn’t do it on her own, “I did not think I would be motivated enough to keep up on it,” said Amy.
 
So she signed up with personal trainer Laura Grovogel through Aurora BayCare Medical Center’s Caregiver Wellness program. “Working at a hospital that has these programs helped motivate me to come and take part in some of these personal training sessions,” said Amy.
 
A personal trainer helps Amy keep accountable, “It’s in their calendar, they’re not going to cancel it, so it really helps with accountability. It helps the person learn proper technique, proper form,”  explained Laura Grovogel, wellness manager, Aurora BayCare Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center.
 
Amy agrees a trainer helped her stay with the program, “The trainer has helped  push me.”
 
Eventually, Laura suggested Amy join the Run for Fun program, “We get together and learned about proper form, injury prevention, different cross training techniques like yoga, different ways to make running fun,” explained Laura.
 
And being in a group helps Amy stay on track, “I have people to email so I know I need to get it done,” said Amy.
 
Amy has partly run and partly walked two 5k’s. Her next goal is the Aurora BayCare Spooky Sprint, “I’m hoping to be able to run the whole thing,” said Amy.
 
The Spooky Sprint is fun for the whole family – and everyone is encouraged to dress up, “There is a 5K and 10K that starts at 8 am we have a 1K family fun run at 9 am,” explained Laura.
 
Those who do the kids fun run get a treat after the event, “When you sign up you will get a free ticket to Sweet Street which is the trick or treating inside Shopko Hall,” said Laura
 
Proceeds from the Spooky Sprint go to sting cancer, “Sting Cancer is a local organization that puts together care packages and care for cancer patients in our area,” Said Laura.
 
Amy is doing great! Her personal trainer and the Run for Run program have helped her meet her goals, “Amy has done fantastically, she has lost about 45 pounds since December first of last year,” said Laura.
 
“I lost some weight, I feel better about myself, i feel energized,” added Amy.
 
The Aurora BayCare Spooky Sprint is Saturday, October 29th in front of the Brown County Arena.
