GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Newly released video, audio, and pictures shed more light on February’s officer-involved shooting death in Green Bay.

What started as a welfare check, ended with a man dead and both responding officers hurt.

Wednesday’s release by the state Division of Criminal Investigation is in response to numerous open records requests regarding the February 24th shooting investigation.

The Brown County District Attorney announced last month, that no charges would be filed against officers Matthew Dunn and Brian Krueger in the death of Joseph Biegert.

Now, with the newly released 911-calls and officer radio activity, we’re hearing how the situation happened that night.

On February 24th, Joseph Biegert’s mother makes a call to 911, saying her son is depressed and swallowed a bottle of pills.

Biegert himself also calls 911, saying there are people at his door who want to hurt him, but when asked to describe them and how many people there are, he can’t say.

When Green Bay officers arrive to Plymouth Lane, Biegert leads them into his apartment.

After Biegert admits to taking pills, officers begin to frisk him for weapons, before turning Biegert over to rescue personnel.

That’s when police say Biegert became resistent.

Police say Biegert continued to be resistent towards the officers, dragging them into his kitchen where a struggle ensued, and where he grabbed a knife and stabbed Officer Dunn.

You can hear the officers deploying their tasers on Biegert, to try and regain control, but according to the report, officers say it had no effect, so they each pulled out their guns.

Nine shots were fired between the officers before they called for backup.

Biegert was pronounced dead at the scene. Again, the two officers are not facing any charges.

Our calls to the Biegert family attorney, for an update on whether or not they plan to file a civil lawsuit against the city, have not been returned.
