WAUKESHA, Wis. (WFRV) – A Waukesha County judge has provided one of two women involved in the 2014 Slender Man stabbing of a young girl, a conditional release from the mental facility where she was to spend 25 years.
On Thursday, Anissa Weier appeared in a courtroom where the judge found that there was no clear and convincing evidence that Weier posed a substantial risk of harm to others, herself, or serious property damage.
Court records indicated that the court then ordered Weier to be released from the Winnebago Mental Health facility pending the preparation of a release plan. The presiding judge reportedly gave state officials 60 days to draw up the plan.
During that time, Weier will be still be held at the Winnebago Mental Health facility at least until a September 10 hearing.

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — A prosecutor argues that a judge should deny a release request by a Wisconsin woman convicted of stabbing a classmate to please the internet horror character Slender Man because she remains a danger to others.
Nineteen-year-old Anissa Weier earlier this month asked a Waukesha County judge to release her from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Oshkosh, where she was sentenced in 2017 to spend 25 years.
Waukesha County Assistant District Attorney Kevin Osborne argues in response to the request that Weier cannot be safely released.
The judge has scheduled a hearing for June 11. Weier and Morgan Geyser were convicted in the near-fatal stabbing of Payton Leutner when the girls were 12.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin woman convicted of stabbing a classmate to please internet horror character Slender Man seven years ago says she deserves to be released from a mental health facility because she’s reached the limits of treatment.
Anissa Weier has asked Waukesha County Judge Michael Bohren to release her from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.
She submitted a letter to Bohren on Wednesday saying that she’s forgiven herself for the attack, she won’t let herself be used as a weapon again and she’s exhausted Winnebago’s resources.
Bohren set a hearing on her request for June 11.
Weier and Morgan Geyser attacked Payton Leutner in 2014 in hopes of becoming Slender Man’s servants. All three girls were 12 years old at the time.

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — One of the teens convicted of stabbing a classmate to please the fictional internet horror character Slender Man is expected to ask for release from a Wisconsin mental health facility.
Anissa Weier, 19, is scheduled to appear Wednesday before the Waukesha County Circuit Court judge who earlier sentenced her to 25 years in a mental health institution and ask for her conditional release.
Weier has spent more than three years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Oshkosh after pleading guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide. A jury found her not criminally responsible due to a mental disease in the stabbing that nearly killed Payton Leutner.
Weier and Morgan Geyser lured their friend into woods at a Waukesha park in 2014 following a sleepover. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times, as Weier encouraged her, leaving the girl to die. All three girls were 12 at the time.
They told investigators they committed the crime to appease Slender Man.
Weier received the maximum sentence in December 2017 after more than three years of mental evaluations and failed attempts to get the case moved to juvenile court.
Judge Michael Bohren will determine whether Weier still poses “a significant risk” of bodily harm to herself or others or of seriously damaging property if conditionally released, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
During the hearing, Bohren will listen to medical professionals who evaluated Weier in recent months.
If Borhen orders her release, she would be assigned state Department of Health Services case managers to track her progress until she’s 37 years old, the length of her commitment.
Weier can petition for conditional release every six months. Her attorney, Maura McMahon, didn’t return several messages.
Geyser is serving a maximum 40-year sentence at a mental health facility.
