Active crime scene near UWGB, police have nearby roads blocked off

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The car belonging to a Sept. 28 homicide victim is now being processed as evidence, reports Green Bay Police.

According to a release, the 2010 Ford Fusion owned by Jason Mendez-Ramos was found on Oct. 20 in an apartment complex on Green Bay’s east side.

Officers say the car is now in their custody as evidence and they explain how the car appeared to be parked in the lot for several weeks – going unnoticed by residence and passersby.

Green Bay Police Dept. officials say they are still asking the public for any information related to the death of Mendez-Ramos or how the car ended up in the lot.

UPDATE: GBPD identify victim found dead on UWGB campus, searching for victim’s car

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials have identified the body that was found on the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay campus on September 28.

According to the Brown County Medical Examiners, the victim was 36-year-old Jason Mendez-Ramos from Ashwaubenon. At this time, police are searching for his vehicle which is a Red 2010 Ford Fusion with Wisconsin license plates of AMJ-2523, which is pictured below.

While the incident was on the UWGB campus, officials believe there is no connection between the crime and the campus.

Detectives are following up on many leads and are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Green Bay Police Department.

UPDATE: Green Bay PD develop leads in homicide case, working with local/state officials

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Police now have leads for the homicide that happened on Tuesday at one of the Arboretum entrances on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s campus.

According to a release, the Green Bay Police Department developed leads pretty early on in the investigation and are looking into the newly developed information.

Officers say local law enforcement will also work with state-level enforcement to identify people involved in the homicide.

They reiterate they believe the death was an isolated incident and officers do not believe the public is in any danger.

UPDATE: GB police asking public’s help in identifying victim of ‘suspicious’ death

TUESDAY 9/28/2021 1:45 p.m.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Police Department has not identified the victim who was found dead at the Arboretum Entrance at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s campus and is asking for the public’s help.

According to the Green Bay Police Department, the preliminary description of the victim is:

Male
20-30 years old
Short dark hair with a trimmed beard
Medium build and approximately six foot tall
Light-skinned

Around 12:30 a.m. a 911 call came in for a grass fire by the Arboretum Entrance walking path of the UWGB campus. UWGB Police put out the fire and found the victim. The case is being investigated as a homicide at this time.

Authorities say they are reviewing surveillance camera footage and more information will be available at a later time. It was also mentioned that the general public is not believed to be in danger.

In a statement from UWGB, information gathered at the scene is not related to campus and there is no threat to the community. The scene has been cleared and the arboretum trails are also open.

UPDATE: Body found along Cofrin Arboretum Trail, death called ‘suspicious’

TUESDAY 9/28/2021 9:11 a.m.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Police Department says it is investigating a ‘suspicious death’ on the Cofrin Arboretum Trail.

According to Captain Ben Allen from the GB Police Department, neighbors called around midnight saying they saw flames and heard loud noises. When authorities responded they found a body along the trail.

Authorities are saying they think the fire and body are connected. They also plan on reopening the roads soon, but parts of the trail will remain closed for the rest of the day.

No information on the victim’s name or gender has been released at this time.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – There is reportedly an active crime scene close to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus.

The Green Bay Police Department reportedly arrived at the scene around midnight. Details regarding the incident are limited.

Authorities are near Sussex Road and Champeau Road in Green Bay and they have been working for hours.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Police Department says they are working on an incident in the Northeast part of the Cofrin Arboretum. There is also no known danger to the campus.
