RIPON, Wis. (WFRV) – As many as 100 firefighters from Winnebago County, Waushara County, and Fond du Lac County are currently working to extinguish a house fire on Cork Street Road in the Town of Ripon.
Though early reports were that people were trapped in the home, Ripon Fire Chief Tim Saul says everyone was safely out of the home when crews arrived.
Fire Chief Saul expressed challenges in saving the home due to lack of water, the sheer size of the home, and that the home was setback over 3,000 feet off the road.
Other issues that hampered the effort to extinguish the house fire were structural collapse soon after crews arrived, ammunition stored in the basement, and propane tanks in or near the home.
The Fire Chief says over 20 fire departments are on scene fighting the blaze; many crews will remain at the site overnight.
Fire Chief Saul says no injuries have been reported, but that there is an unconfirmed report of an animal death.
The cause of the fire is still being determined.
