KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WFRV) – Law enforcement in Kaukauna has taken one person into custody following an active incident near the Dr. H.B. Tanner Elementary School.

According to the Kaukauna Police Department, the incident began around 3 a.m. on April 6, when officers made contact with a ‘suspicious suspect’ in the 1400 block of Crooks Avenue.

The suspect, a 42-year-old man, had a felony warrant for his arrest, officers say. While communicating with the man, he allegedly became uncooperative and fled the scene in his vehicle.

As the suspect fled, officers were able to use tire deflation devices and after a short pursuit, it ended when the suspect’s vehicle got stuck in the median on CTH CE near Fieldcrest Drive.

The man, who officers believed to be armed and dangerous, reportedly refused to follow commands from officers.

The Outagamie County Emergency Response Team assisted with negotiations with the suspect and after several hours of negotiations, the suspect fled the vehicle.

The release states that ‘less lethal force’ was used and the suspect was taken into custody.

The Kaukauna Police Department was assisted by the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Appleton Police Department.

No additional information was provided.
