SEC college football fans take over Titletown in about a week for that big game between Wisconsin and LSU at Lambeau Field. LSU fans love to travel – many in RVs which soon will be parked all across the Green Bay area.
On Labor Day weekend, RVs always fill Apple Creek Campground. But Pam Packee says this year, most of those RVs will have Louisiana license plates.
“We have a total of 135 sites and probably three quarters of them are going to be for Louisiana fans,” said Packee, manager at the campground in De Pere.
With the Titletown District under construction, the former K-Mart lot where RVs use to park is gone. Meaning businesses in the area with space like Apple Creek and Burkel’s One Block Over, are filling a need.
“The LSU fans are crazy nuts about this whole game,” said Kevin Burkel. “It’s insane, never seen anything like this.”
The exact number of RVs expected to roll into Green Bay for the game is unknown – but it appears to be hundreds. Brad Toll of the Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau says LSU fans love to travel – ticket or not.
“Very similar to Packers fans how they travel and Badger fans too – we are expecting a lot of LSU fans in the Green Bay area,” said Toll.
PMI has rented 70 spots in a parking lot they manage. And Burkel says between his neighbor’s lot and his own hundreds of additional spots have been spoken for.
“There is going to be a lot of people here,” Burkel said. “As far as I know, we’re over 350 RVs right now just down here.”
Chief Eric Dunning of Ashwaubenon Public Safety offers this advice for this game: don’t roll into town in a RV unless you have a reservation somewhere.
“Just to come in here and drive around and think there is going to be something available – they are under false expectation and will be deeply disappointed,” Dunning said.
And if you’re looking for Cajun country – just head to Apple Creek Campground next week. LSU fans start rolling in next Tuesday.
