Appleton Police Prepare for Busy Octoberfest Weekend

Local News

Appleton Police Chief Todd Thomas says that his department was contacted by ICE via email prior to the three arrests made in Outagamie County this week. The four day operation throughout the state netted 83 total arrests. This comes after Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith said that the agency did not contact his department before the nine arrests made in Brown County.

Thomas also talked about the arrest of a 27-year-old man last week that resulted in the lockdown of nearby schools and hospitals. Thomas said the suspect fled from police after a car chase, and tried hiding underneath a vehicle after he saw the department utilized their drone. Thomas added the suspect “was sure he was going to get away if we didn’t have the drone.”

Friday marks the start of Octoberfest where 200,000+ people are expected to attend. It all kicks off with License to Cruise on Friday at 6 p.m. Thomas says it will be all hands on deck for the department, and he’s advising that commuters find alternative routes ahead of time.
