MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) - A man in Manitowoc has died in an officer-involved shooting following a confrontation with a police officer.
On Sunday at 4:43 a.m., a Manitowoc police officer and fire crews responded to a fire alarm on 1551 S. 35th St. While authorities were investigating, the officer was involved in a confrontation with a man at the residence. Initial indications are that the suspect was armed with a blunt weapon. As a result, the officer fired his weapon and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer involved in the incident will be placed on paid administrative leave according to the department policy during the investigation.
According to the Manitowoc Police Department, this incident is not related to last week's double homicide, contrary to social media reports.
