Badges Giving Baskets: Green Bay Police Deliver Thanksgiving Meals to Families in Need

Local News

Monday afternoon, Green Bay Police Officers were out and about, delivering baskets of food in time for Thanksgiving.

Captain Kevin Warych told Local 5 that 75 baskets were hand delivered, in the hopes of bridging a lasting connection between the department and the community.

“People see police officers on their worst day, and we want to make sure they see police officers on their best day,” Capt. Warych said. “If we can bring a food basket to them, they’ll think that the police officers aren’t that bad, and break through that perception and those fears.”

One Green Bay resident Jennifer Fonseca says she was not expecting a gift from the officers.

“It was a shock,” she said after accepting a gift basket for her family. “this is a really nice, warm helping hand for us, to see that there’s police departments that really do care.”

The food that the gift baskets contained was provided by Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
