Competitors from all over the Midwest came to compete in the Brown County Reforestation Camp’s U.S. Biathlon in Suamico.
The Bay Nordic Ski Club’s 2nd annual biathlon event for 2019 included cross country skiing and rifle shooting.
Participants had to ski 10 kilometers and shoot their rifles at targets along the way.
Race and Program Director for the Bay Nordic Biathlon Brian Gustin said the event gives the community a sense of camaraderie.
“It gets people outdoors in the wintertime and rather than sitting indoors in the wintertime, we have this very active group of people that enjoy both the target shooting and the skiing together,” Gustin said. “It’s kind of a tight-knit camaraderie here and we just enjoy friendly competition.”
Competitors sighted their rifles from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. when the races officially began.
