Bay Port Guy Pageant Celebrates 20th Anniversary in 2019

Local News

The Bay Port High School Guy Pageant will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2019.  The January 23 event at the school is an annual fundraiser for their DECA program

DECA Students Allie Huhtala and Allie Bartz brought three of this year’s contestants Drew Abfall, Trevor Winkle, and Ryan Kemppainen along with them on Local 5 This Morning ahead of the big show.

“The guy pageant is sort of a mock on a beauty pageant that has been going on for 20 years at Bay Port,” Bartz said.

A total of nine guys will be competing in an array of categories, including talent and costume portions. Local 5 This Morning’s Brittany Falkers and Nate Stewart will be volunteering as two of the judges for the third year in a row.

The event is a major fundraiser for Bay Port’s DECA program, which prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high school.

“We raise money for our chapter as a whole so that we can send competitors to competition as well as for our travel expenses and for marketing,” Huhtala said.

Each contestant will showcase their personalities in hopes of becoming Mr. Bay Port

Abfall told Local 5 This Morning that his talent will feature his incredible control of a magic orb.

Winkle will be playing the piano and singing.  He also told viewers to watch out for his “sick dance moves.”

Kemppainen will be treating the audience to “today’s hits” on the harmonica.

Help cheer them on and support Bay Port DECA at the High School January 23 at 7 p.m.
