Brian Johnson wins City Council seat, Guy Zima out after 40 years

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Green Bay City Council incumbent Guy Zima has lost the District 9 race to On Broadway executive director Brian Johnson.

Guy Zima has served on City Council for 40 years. He lost a re-election in 2012, but won again in 2014.

Local 5 reached out to Zima while the polls were still open on Tuesday afternoon, looking to schedule an interview once the results were in. When we called him for an interview once the results came in, he did not answer.

Zima also lost his seat on the Brown County board as a supervisor to Megan Borchardt.

Johnson held watch-turned-victory part at Gather on Broadway.

In his victory speech, Johnson focused on the goal of having Green Bay City Council work as a unified team instead of a divided group.

"I think there’s been a lot of, obviously a lot of city decorum has been missing at the council, so I think that really has to be one of our priorities before we can get a lot of the work done," Johnson told a Local 5 reporter, "We have to figure out how to work together as a team. Once we get beyond that, then we start talking about issues.”

He also talked about how he wants to fix Green Bay's roads, and also make sure taxpayer money is used responsibly.
