Burch trial continues, Douglass Detrie takes the stand

Local News

Wednesday was day three of the George Burch murder trial for the death of 31-year old Nicole VanderHeyden in May of 2016.

Today, Douglass Detrie, VanderHeyden’s former boyfriend, took the stand.

Friends of VanderHeyden and Detrie also took the stand today.

Much of what was discussed was Aaron Kulinski and Greg Mathu’s accounts of what happened that night.

While Kulinski said he chased after VanderHeyden on Howard street to convince her to ride home with their group of friends Nicole refused.

But Mathu said he was with Detrie who tried to reach out to Nicole to find out where she was.

Detrie was called to the stand shortly before Judge Zakowski decided the jury to take a break.

The state asked if he ever wondered where Nicole was.

“I did not know where Nikki was, I figured she was somewhere and had found people,” says Detrie. “There were different groups everywhere, I thought she was you know talking with whoever.”

Court will resume Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m.
