Car vs. semi crash knocks out power in Winnebago County

One person is in the hospital and many woke up without power Thursday morning after a car hit a semi in Winnebago County.

According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s office, at around 1:30 a.m., a vehicle traveling southbound on State Highway 76 crossed the center line and hit a northbound semi near Oakridge Road.

The semi went into the ditch and hit a power pole, and caused the power lines to fall into the road. 

The driver of the vehicle sustained a broken leg and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

WPS was called to the scene because the road could not be opened up until the power lines were cleared. The road was reopened just after 7 a.m. Power was knocked out for for people south of Oakridge Road.

As of 9 a.m, 48 customers are without power. 3,000 customers were affected by by the sccident accident in the Oshkosh area.
