The Bertschinger family has owned and operated the Alpine Resort in Egg Harbor for 95-plus years, but after this upcoming season, the growing family has decided to make a change.
On Wednesday, the family officially placed the property on the market.
Emily Pitchford, a member of the third generation of the Bertschinger family to own the resort says that with the growing family, operating the business has become too difficult.
“The structure of the family the way it is at this point in time, we’ve decided that the direction we’re going in is to list the entire property for sale,” she told Local Five on Wednesday, “It’s a long time. We’re the third generation, we’ve got the fourth generation involved but again, with this many owners, it’s just become more and more difficult to continue in the same direction so that’s why we’re listing it for sale.”
The property is listed with Newmark Grubb Pfefferle for $15 million.
Tom Fisk, one of the realtors working with the property says that the resort offers a unique opportunity.
“The property is truly unique in Door County,” he said. “There’s nothing like it, it’s got nearly half a mile of shoreline on the Bay of Green Bay, it contains approximately 250 acres including 36 holes of golf, there’s the main resort property itself, and then there’s a number of cottages that are included, there’s bluff property overlooking the bay that’s just spectacular views.”
Pitchford says that her family has enjoyed being a part of the Egg Harbor community.
“People appreciate that it’s always been our family, they definitely come to see our family, but it’s also a very true Door County place to be,” she said. “It’s true Door County, and we’ve kept that..we’re sad about it but it’s going to be a great thing. Whatever comes out of this will be a great thing for this community.”
The resort and golf course will operate as usual for the upcoming season, which runs from May through November first.
