Chilton High School Principal Ty Breitlow was honored Thursday afternoon as Wisconsin’s 2019 Principal of the Year.
The honor came as a surprise to the principal during a schoolwide assembly.
Officials with the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators were on hand to bestow the honor upon Breitlow, and said he had been chosen for the award in part because of the connections he had built with students and the community.
Rick Flaherty, Principal of Superior Middle School and a Board Member of the AWSA told Local 5 that Breitlow was chosen out of applications from across the state.
“I think Ty’s ability to build relationships and the connection he has with the community and the students has a significant impact,” Flaherty said, “and is what made his application stand out.”
Breitlow, whose family was present at the assembly, says he did not expect the honor.
“(It was a) total surprise, and a wonderful surprise,” he said. “(It was an) incredible honor, humbling experience, just a wonderful surprise and certainly don’t feel that I’m deserving, but I’m appreciative of the award.”
