Community garden opens in De Pere Lions Park

Local News

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) — The first community garden in De Pere has opened.

The Extension Brown County Community Gardens Program opened the garden at De Pere Lions Park May 14.

The De Pere Lions Club donated an 1100 gallon water tank for the cause and helped break ground on the garden.

The program, which began in 1996, now offers more than 350 rentable plots throughout Brown County.

Low-to-moderate income community members remain the focus for the gardens as they increase participants’ food security.

Of the 25 plots in the De Pere garden, 19 have already been claimed.

Plots remain available for yearly renting, with prices varying according to the size of the plot.

For more information about renting a plot, contact the Extension Brown County Community Gardens Program at 920-391-4660 or
