Appleton (WFRV) Community members came together for a rally in downtown Appleton against repealing the Affordable Care Act.
The rally comes just days after senate republicans launched their efforts to repeal and replace President Barack Obama’s landmark healthcare initiative earlier this week.
The Appleton rally is part of coordinated events across the nation.
Organizers say they want to protect the 30 million Americans who are at risk of having their health care coverage taken away, “We need to have health care that’s affordable and accessible for everyone that we should know what we are going to have and not just have a repel with no plan in place,” said Penny Bernard Schaver, Citizen Activist.
Some at the rally were worried about what would happen with their own health insurance, “We could not afford insurance as self employed people so the healthcare bill gave us the opportunity to have insurance for the first time in ten years so we appreciate we are able to get our insurance now and have healthcare like everybody else,” said Nettie McGee, Appleton.
Thursday senators voted 51-48 to approve a budget resolution that will dismantle President Obama’s signature health insurance program.
