Multiple crews from around the Bellevue area were busy battling a garage fire Friday morning.
Battalion Chief Joe Bertler with Bellevue Fire and Rescue says it happened just after 8 o’clock at 2141 Lane Road. The 30×40 detached garage had no vehicles inside and was about 50 feet away from the house.
Lane Road does not have any hydrants and due to the cold weather, additional resources were requested.
Bertler says the quick response from the departments limited the spread of the fire, which was believed to have started in the attic, where it was contained and controlled in about 30 minutes.
However, Bertler says the cold conditions made battling the fire difficult.
“Water freezes right away in these temperatures, so it’s tricky,” he said. “Pumps can potentially freeze up, fortunately we had nothing on that go wrong, but it always makes for fighting the fire more difficult.”
No injuries were reported. Damage to the structure is estimated at $20,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
