MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – The fire that destroyed the Whiting Mill is still under investigation, and authorities feel it was not caused by an act of nature.
According to authorities, investigators are still working on determining the cause of the fire. However, investigators feel that the fire was not caused by an act of nature.

UPDATE: Menasha Police warn that area near Whiting Mill is unsafe, collapse possible

MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – The Menasha Police Department is warning citizens to stay away from the Whiting Paper Mill due to the extremely unstable conditions.
The fire remains active and is an unsafe area to be in, the walls and structure are reportedly extremely unstable and could collapse at any time. River Street is barricaded to traffic, while Water Street is open to vehicle traffic.
The Loop the Lake Trail also remains open for pedestrians but the Menasha Police is reminding those to stay on the trail.
A video by the Menasha Police shows multiple people escorted away right as a wall collapsed and created a fireball.
UPDATE: Whiting Mill fire investigation will take days, no known injuries

MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – The investigation into the fire that caused the Whiting Mill to go up in flames will take a number of days to complete.
According to the Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue, when crews arrived it was quickly determined that the extent of the fire required the activation of MABAS Divison 123 to bring more fire personnel to assist. Crews were able to contain the fire early Monday morning, but crews will remain on scene to fully put out the fire.
Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue and the Menasha Police Department are both working on the investigation.
There were no known injuries reported during the incident.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. Local 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
UPDATE: Whiting Mill fire under control, but still active

MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – The fire at the Whiting Mill in Menasha is under control, but is still an active fire.
According to authorities, the call came in for the reported fire around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, and at this time it is still an active fire. However, the fire is reportedly under control but hot spots are still being looked after.
More information was expected to be released around 9:00 a.m.
ORIGINAL: Crews battling fire at Whiting Mill in Menasha

MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – Neenah – Menasha Fire Rescue are currently battling a fire at the Whiting Mill.
Little information is known at this time but crews are on the scene. Mayor Don Merkes posted on Facebook, “Another great loss to Menasha history, the Whiting Mill is up in flames. NM fire is on scene protecting neighboring properties.”
