Convicted murderer Brendan Dassey will remain in prison after losing his appeal.
Friday afternoon the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals announced that in a four to three decision, Brendan Dassey’s conviction for the murder of Teresa Halbach will be upheld.
The court was faced with the task of deciding whether Dassey’s confession, that was captured on video tape, to the 2005 rape and murder of Halbach could be used against him.
The court decided that the confession was indeed voluntary.
In the Decision Document, the court states that several factors point towards the confession being voluntary.
It says, in part, that Dassey spoke freely with interrogators, was read his Miranda warnings, and spoke with the consent of his mother.
Dassey was convicted of the crime in 2007.
