Wednesday is both Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday. It’s the first time since 1945 that the holidays fall on the same day.
Ash Wednesday marks the start of the holy season of Lent, a time of reflection and repentance for people of several Christian denominations. For centuries, many who observe Lent have received a cross of ashes on their foreheads at the beginning of the season. For those who want to receive ashes, but are in a hurry, a De Pere church is letting people get them on the go.
St. Anne’s Church offered “Ashes to Go” Wednesday morning as a drive thru and walk up service, and will do so again Wednesday evening, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. It is open to everyone, regardless of their religious affiliation, and the process takes less than a minute.
