De Pere Schools Finish School Year Slightly Later than Originally Planned

Local News

Most school districts in Northeast Wisconsin wrapped up the school year a week ago, but students in De Pere returned to class Monday morning for a half day of school.

A calendar on the district’s website lists the original last day of school as Friday, June 8.

That date was changed to Monday June 11 following an abundance of snow days related to the unseasonable April blizzard.

Students spoke to Local 5 after completing the half day, and most were happy to be done with the year, but annoyed at having to come back after the weekend for a half day of school.

“It feels pretty good, but overall I was pretty devastated to come to school on a Monday,” said student Chis Hooyman.

Student Greg Bintz agrees, “It feels kind of awkward, it’s a Monday and it was only half a day.”
