Double Murder Suspect Appears in Court Withdraws Insanity Plea

An Ashwaubenon man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her mother in June of 20-16 appeared in Brown County court Monday morning and withdrew his not guilty of insanity plea. 

27-year-old Jacob Cayer is charged with two counts of first degree intentional homicide and one count of attempted homicide.

Almost two years ago, Cayer was arrested after Sabrina Teague and her mother known as sunny – were killed at their home in Hobart.

 A third victim, Joel Kennedy, was also stabbed multiple times during the incident.

According to court documents, the trial has been postponed to July 23.

An Ashwaubenon man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her mother in June of 2016 will be in Brown County Court for his final pre-trial conference.   

27-year-old Jacob Cayer is charged with two counts of first degree intentional homicide and one count of attempted homicide. Almost two years ago, Cayer was arrested after Sabrina Teague and her mother, Heesun, were killed at their home in Hobart. A third victim, Joel Kennedy, was also stabbed multiple times during the incident.

In August of 2016, Cayer failed his previous competency exam and was sent to a state mental health facility for treatment. He was in court at the end of February 2017 to see if he was mentally competent to stand trial, but a second competency hearing was ordered. One month later, a judge ruled that Cayer was competent to stand trial.

The pre-trial conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, May 7th. Cayer is scheduled to stand trial on Monday, May 14.
