Downtown Appleton is eyeing a major new development in its march toward the riverfront.
The first phase calls for demolishing the Soldiers Square parking ramp and building a new public library, almost 100 apartments/condos, and retail.
The project, selected by city staff out of eight different plans, predicts an approximate $66M in new tax base.
Future phases take aim at areas south of the YMCA, which could add more than 200 additional apartments or condos, a restaurant, and a new public parking ramp.
The major multi-phase development proposal is looking for approval from the Common Council and Library Board of Trustees over the coming months.
