Dragon Boat Races Coming to Green Bay July 28

Local News

Grab a paddle, make your way to the City Deck, and unleash your inner dragon! The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Green Bay is excited to announce the first-ever Greater Green Bay Dragon Boat Races.

Director of Communication and Development Stephanie Nespoli stopped by Local 5 This Morning on Tuesday to encourage local businesses, organizations, and individuals to assemble their teams for the summer fundraising event.

On July 28, 2018, authentic dragon boats will be prominently displayed at City Deck in downtown Green Bay, and participants will showcase their teamwork with some good-natured and spirited competition.

Support our local Boys and Girls Club by being an event sponsor or registering as a corporate, community, or club team. Individual signups are also welcome. Nonprofit rates are available as well, according to Nespoli.

Dragon boat racing is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world and focuses on the importance of collaboration, communication, and efficiency. Sound familiar? Just like the workplace, dragon boat racing does not focus on individual strength, but on team involvement and working together towards a common goal – not to mention, it’s a lot of fun.

“Participants can even receive a full refund on their registration fee by taking part in the “Paddlers Pledge.” When teams sign up, each receives an individual customized fundraising page that allows team members to raise additional funds for Boys & Girls Club youth,” Nespoli said.

Teams that raise at least $1,500 by July 9 will receive a 50 percent refund of their registration fee and teams that raised $3,000 or more by July 9 will receive a 100 percent refund! There will also be a team prize given at the event to the team that raises the most overall funds.

All money raised through the Paddlers Pledge, as well as the overall event, will go directly towards supporting the Club’s healthy lifestyles-focused programming, which focuses on teaching youth and teens the importance of physical activity and nutrition, healthy life skills like good hygiene and stress management, emotional and mental health, and more.

Team registration closes on July 18.

The Greater Green Bay Dragon Boat Races are Saturday, July 28 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City Deck. For more information, to register your team and/or sign up to volunteer visit their website at gbdragonboatraces.com
