Experience Greater Green Bay Visitor Center Planned to Open 2020

Local News

Visitors to the Green Bay area will soon have a place to go to be welcomed to the region. A multimillion dollar project is underway, to build a new visitor center just west of Lambeau Field.

Outside of the offices of the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau – the organization unveils construction plans.

“It will provide a wow factor environment for visitors when they arrive,” said CVB President Brad Toll.

To help them better showcase the community for the millions of visitors that come to the region each year.

“Many of you travel to other communities in the country and see vibrant cities having centers that promote all the assets in their community and that is what this center will do,” said Jeff Mirkes, a member of the capital campaign board for the project.

The Experience Greater Green Bay Visitor Center is a $6.5 million project two years in the making.  It will be built near the Titletown District on a lot across the street from Cabela’s – a two-story building featuring an expansive atrium.

“It will feature an atrium with interactive displays that will highlight attractions in the Green Bay area, the history and traditions of the community and the industries here,” said Toll.

The CVB says that each year 6 million visitors come to Brown County and many stop here. But while their current office works, it is cramped and dated, and the organization wants to make a better first impression.

“This is going to be a red carpet welcome mat for visitors, for entrepreneurs, people looking at Green Bay,” said Mirkes.

Funded through donations, organizers have collected $3.5 million in pledges so far.  The Oneida Nation making a huge impact by donating $1.5 million.

“When our community thrives everybody thrives, so it’s a great partnership to have with the greater Green Bay area,” said Oneida Nation Chairman Tehassi Hill.

“We can’t wait to showcase all that we have to offer in the community,” Toll said.

The welcome center expected to open summer of 2020.
