FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – Off-duty firefighters and neighboring fire departments were all called in on Sunday morning to help extinguish a Fond du Lac house fire that was spreading to nearby homes.
According to Fond du Lac Fire Rescue, just after 2 a.m., crews responded to a two-and-a-half-story single-family home located in the 20 block of W. Bank Street for a report of a fire.
Upon arrival, crews say they were met with ‘heavy fire conditions’ emanating from the entire house and beginning to spread to two neighboring homes.
Officials said the fire was difficult to extinguish due to the high winds and the state the fire was in when crews arrived resulting in the department needing to call for assistance.
Fortunately, all of the residents had already safely evacuated.
Crews were able to extinguish the blaze from all three homes leaving destruction in their wake. The two neighboring homes impacted by the fire sustained moderate-to-major damage.
Officials say a person from the home where the fire ignited was evaluated and taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No other civilian injuries were reported.
Two Fond du Lac firefighters did suffer minor injuries. Both firefighters are said to have already returned to work.
Residents of all three homes impacted by this fire have been displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – The Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue responded to an overnight house fire in the city.
Just before 4 a.m. on Sunday morning, the Fond du Lac Fire Rescue tweeted a picture of fire crews at the scene of a burning home that was located in the 20 block of W Bank Street.
In the photo, it seems the fire spread to the roof of a neighboring home as well as a tree in the back of the home.
Officials did confirm that there were ‘multiple exposures’ during the incident.
