Fire officials say a barn in Calumet County is a total loss after an overnight fire.

They say that equipment failure is likely to blame for the fire that began in the barn that housed no animals.

The fire began in the half of the barn that housed farm equipment and spread across the roof of the building to the other half, that was filled to the ceiling with straw.

Fire fighters quickly knocked down the fire in the front part of the building, but had more difficulty getting to the straw-filled side of the barn. A backhoe was eventually utilized to spread out the straw to extinguish the fire.

Fire officials say there were no injuries, human or animal, as a result of the blaze.
