Fox Communities Credit Union is this year’s sponsor, allowing the festival to be free to the public.
Jones Park will also be open in time for the festival after undergoing renovations.
“We have Jones Park back and that’s huge for us, having a venue as really cool as Jones Park is going to be, it has a brand new stage down there, a brand new ampitheater type feel, we’re going to have, many of our top acts will be down there,” Dave Willems, executive producer of Mile of Music, said.
Jones Park will host eight performances on the Friday and Saturday of Mile of Music, including Tae from Green Bay and the Milwaukee duo Nickel & Rose.
The four-day long affair will include 200 artists, with at least half of them new to the concert series, and more than 900 live performances. There will also be about 50 educational sessions.
“I love having so many musicians from around the country come here to experience our unique culture that we have in this area,” Cory Chisel, co-founder of the Mile of Music, said. “We have offered the world a lot, from Harry Houdini to Willem Dafoe, lots of great artists come out of this area so it’s fun to show it off to people who might not know about it.”
Another 150 acts will be announced over the next six weeks until June 1st.
“These artists are their own artists, they’re playing their own music, and that’s the beauty of it,” Willems said. “So the people who love the festival love the fact that they don’t know what the next song will be. So, they have to listen to the words, and listen to the music to understand where the artist is coming from, that’s the connection they’re making with them.”
