The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin has released information on timber thefts that happened in the Menominee Forest.

The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin indicted five individuals into the theft of timber from forests that are managed on behalf of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin by Menominee Tribal Enterprise

Menominee Tribal Chairman, Douglas Cox, commented on the investigation;

“The Menominee Tribe takes great pride in the management of our largest tribal trust asset, the Menominee Forest. The betrayal of trust by native logging contractors and others who participated in the theft of timber from our forest is not something our Tribal Government will turn a blind eye to.”

They do not have any further comment on the incident.
