Five Neighboring Businesses in De Pere Work Together to Feed Hungry

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) - Five neighboring businesses in De Pere are working together to help feed the hungry. Kris Schuller has more on a friendly competition to collect non-perishable food items for Paul's Pantry.

In De Pere's East Industrial Park - five companies compete to collect food. In a friendly competition to help make a positive impact in the fight against hunger.

“We recognize that there are people in our community that are not as fortunate as we are,” said Jackie Olson of ATC.

For the last few years ATC, PAi, AmeriLux, MJ Electric and Wel Companies have set aside the month of January to urge employees to fill bins with non-perishable food items, which will be donated to Paul’s Pantry.

“Food donations drop off at pantries after the holidays every year, so January is a critical month for them,” Olson said.

“It's helping out the community at a time they need it the most, to help stock the shelves after the cleanout of the holidays, “said Laura Leiterman from AmeriLux.

“I think a lot of us have kind of been there, you know at some point in the cycle of life, we were all going through some hardships, we had a need,” said Brian Duff from PAi.

Last year three companies competed bringing in a total 7,500 food items. And so far in 2019 the five companies’ employees are again opening up their hearts.

“We care, we want to raise some money, raise some food, stock the shelves,” Duff said.

And to the company that collects the most food goes a traveling trophy. But the real motivation is simply to give back, to help those dealing with hunger.

“A can of food can go a long way to satisfy somebody,” said Olson.
