Fond du Lac Driver Sentenced for Pedestrian Death

Local News

A 52 year old Fond du Lac man was sentenced today  to a year in jail and 3 years probation for killing a pedestrian while driving without a license. Fond du Lac County Judge Richard Nuss sentenced Peter R. Anderson for the November 18, 2017 accident that killed 54 year old Jeffrey J. Koenigs of Fond du Lac.

Anderson was convicted December 14th for hitting Koenigs with his vehicle as Koenigs was crossing the intersection of S. Park Avenue and 2nd Street in Fond du Lac at about 1:38 am on November 18th of last year. Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney said that while Anderson tested positive for a blood alcohol concentration of .05, it was decided that there was insufficient evidence to try him for drunk driving.

The victim’s wife, Sara Koenigs, told the court, “My family has been through a lot, a fraction of which would break most people. We’ll get through this together, the same way we’ve face our other tragedies. That being said, I’d like to say that if one positive thing could come of this,  I hope that it is a reminder to everyone that when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you are literally taking people’s lives into your hands. It’s a great responsibility. Please drive safely.”

District Attorney Toney stated that, “Jeff’s death is a tragic loss that shouldn’t have happened, and is a reminder of the incredible responsibility we all undertake when getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. No judicial sentence can bring Jeff or any love ones back, and the Koenigs family has my deepest sympathies as they mourn the loss of Jeff. “

The case was investigated by the City of Fond du Lac Police Department, and assisted by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
