Football coaches come to Green Bay for a clinic on safety

Local News

The discussion around concussions has football taking a proactive approach when it comes to head injuries, that was on display today as the Packers hosted a coaching clinic.

USA Football master trainer Dave Keel has spearheaded two camps, about a month ago they hosted a parents clinic and today 280 football coaches from around the state showed up to learn drills.

There were youth football coaches from Madison and Milwaukee, where a non-profit organization has an inner city youth football league run entirely by volunteers.

Evan Kern coaches three teams in Milwaukee and called this clinic huge, he had an entire notebook full of notes to take back to Milwaukee.

Keel said that parents two biggest concerns are coaches and injuries, this clinic aimed to tackle both while providing coaches with a chance to learn about leadership and all the other values that a coach can instill in young men.

But, also insisting on head up and head out, because it is important for kids to learn proper shoulder tackling techniques from a young age.

Keel said across the country for programs that have instilled the USA Football safety techniques that injuries sustained in practice for kids has dropped by 63 percent.
