A former Manawa special education teacher is facing felony charges after he allegedly caused mental and physical harm to a student with autism.
David Bessette was fired from the school after video apparently showed him dragging the student down the hall and sprinkling him water on him.
The Manawa community is calling this an unfortunate and very disturbing incident.
It happened at Little Wolf JR/SR High School in Manawa in January.
Bessette is accused of dragging a 13-year-old autistic student by the arms into the hallway.
Bessette then allegedly sprinkled water from a water fountain onto the student, according to the criminal complaint.
It is documented in the school records that the child has sensory issues and does not like wet clothing.
Bessette was charged Thursday with mental hard to a child and physical abuse of a child.
The mother of the boy said that her son has been doing well since the teacher left the school.
A look at Bessette’s LinkedIn page produced this sentence from his profile, ” I worked in the field of education for 7 years finalizing it with a job as a special education teacher. This experience taught me that I do not wish to be a teacher, and I need to reinvent myself once again.”
