Fox Valley Activists, Lawmakers Speak Out in Favor of BadgerCare Expansion

Local News

A push is underway to expand BadgerCare in the next state budget.

Lawmakers from the Fox Valley joined health care experts for a news conference Monday morning, outlining their plan to ask Governor Tony Evers and the legislature to act on what they say is the will of the people following November’s state elections.

They say expanding BadgerCare through federal dollars will help a lot of people in Wisconsin.

“It’s a huge opportunity in this budget to give healthcare: quality, affordable, healthcare to people who are working just above the poverty line to 75,000 more people that don’t have access to good insurance at work and can get it through BadgerCare if we just take that extra federal money that Wisconsin has been leaving on the table,” Robert Kraig, Executive Director of Citizen Action Wisconsin said.

61 percent of Outagamie County voters support the expansion.

Governor Evers is expected to release his state budget this week.
