Garage fire put out quickly thanks to quick call from a witness

Local News

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) — The Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department says a garage fire could have been a lot worse if not for a witness who called authorities.

Fire officials say they received a call just after midnight from a witness saying he saw flames visible from a detached garage on Jackson Street. Crews say they were able to make it to the fire in under 5 minutes and had the fire out in 10 minutes.

The department says a car parked outside the garage sustained some heat damage as did the outside of the home. They also added:

“The Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department would like to thank the initial caller for the notification of the fire which reduced any potential damage to surrounding properties adjacent to the garage.”

Officials say they have not yet determined the cause of the fire and do not yet have an estimated cost of the damage.
