GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – More charges have been added to the former Baird Elementary School teacher who was arrested back in 2021 for allegedly sexually assaulting a student.

David Villareal, who was a bilingual teacher at Baird Elementary School, was arrested back in April after allegations were made that he had sexually assaulted a child.

Shortly after, Villareal was formally charged with the following counts:

  • Two counts of first degree sexual assault – sexual contact with a child under the age of 13.
  • One count of repeated acts of sexual assault of a child.

A complaint that had been released stated that the three counts happened between 2015 and 2017. In addition, three separate girls had also come forward with allegations against Villareal.

Now, nearly a year later, Villareal has received the following additional charges:

  • Two counts of Sex Assault of Student by School Staff
  • 1st Degree Child Sex Assault-Contact w/Person under 16 by use of Threat of Force/Violence
  • 1st Degree Child Sex Assault – Sexual Contact with Person under Age of 13

UPDATE: Baird Elementary School teacher pleads not guilty to all sexual assault charges

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The teacher who is facing sexual assault charges stemming from incidents between 2015 and 2017, pleaded not guilty to all charges.

David Villareal (46-years-old), who was a Baird Elementary School teacher pleaded not guilty to the following charges:

  • Two counts of 1st Degree Child Sexual Assault
  • One count of Repeated Sexual Assault of the Same Child

The pre-trial conference is set for July 19 and the trial is set for one week later on July 26.

If Villareal is convicted, court documents say he faces close to 60 years in prison for both counts of first-degree sexual assault. If convicted of repeated acts of sexual assault, Villareal faces a fine of $100,000 and/or be in prison for 40 years.

An earlier says Villareal was placed under administrative leave at Baird Elementary after working for the school district since 2014.

UPDATE: Green Bay School District releases statement, contacted CPS during 2016-2017 school year

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Area Public School District (GBAPSD) released a statement stating they contacted Brown County Child Protective Services (CPS) back in the 2016-2017 school year.

The GBAPSD says they are cooperating with the Green Bay Police Department regarding the allegations against teacher David Villareal.

GBAPSD addresses a previous allegation against Mr. Villareal in the 2016-2017 school year. Principal Michael Sheean did conduct an investigation into the complaint against Mr. Villareal. GBAPSD says the steps taken by the District were in accordance with District policy.

Principal Sheean reported the complaint to Brown County CPS, according to GBAPSD. CPS would have made the determination whether or not to involve law enforcement.

The Green Bay Area Public School District is cooperating with the Green Bay Police Department regarding the allegations of inappropriate contact between bilingual teacher David Villareal and former students at Baird Elementary School. The criminal report cited a previous allegation against Mr. Villareal in the 2016-2017 school year.  Principal Michael Sheean had conducted an investigation into a complaint against Mr. Villareal. The steps taken by the District following the investigation were in accordance with District policy. 

As a mandatory reporter of child maltreatment, Principal Sheean appropriately reported the complaint to Brown County Child Protective Services (CPS) per Board of Education policy and State law. Upon receipt of the complaint, CPS would have made the determination as to whether to involve law enforcement.

The District says they will be providing no additional comment since this is a personal matter and an ongoing police investigation.

ORIGINAL: UPDATE: Baird Elementary School teacher charged with three counts related to sexual assault of a child

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – A Baird Elementary School teacher is formally charged for having sexual contact with a child under the age of 13.

According to the criminal complaint, charges against 46-year-old David Villareal are as follows:

  • Two counts of first degree sexual assault – sexual contact with a child under the age of 13.
  • One count of repeated acts of sexual assault of a child.

The complaint states the three counts happened on or about 2015 on or between 2017. In addition, three separate girls have come forth with allegations against Villareal.

In the complaint, Villareal tells officials he worked at two schools in Houston, Texas, but his contract wasn’t renewed due to lack of appropriate classroom management.

If Villareal is convicted, court documents say he faces close to 60 years in prison for both counts of first-degree sexual assault. If convicted of repeated acts of sexual assault, Villareal faces a fine of $100,000 and/or be in prison for 40 years.

Court officials have placed Villareal on a $50,000 cash bond and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 22.

UPDATE: Baird Elementary School teacher arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a student

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – A Green Bay man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a student was employed at Baird Elementary School, according to the Green Bay Area School District.

The district sent out an email to parents stating they are aware of Villareal’s arrest for “allegations of inappropriate contact between himself and students at Baird Elementary School.”

The release goes on to say Villareal was placed under administrative leave at Baird Elementary after working for the school district since 2014.

As this is an ongoing investigation, the district says they are unable to provide any additional information and requests others to contact the Green Bay Police Department if they have more information.

Original Story: Green Bay man arrested on multiple alleged sexual assault charges

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – A Green Bay man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a student.

According to the jail’s online inmate database, 46-year-old David Villareal was arrested on April 14 on recommended charges of the following:

  • Two counts of Sexual Assault of a Student by School Staff
  • Two counts of Sexual Contact/Intercourse with a Child Under 13 Resulting in Great Bodily Harm
  • One count of Causing Mental Harm to a Child
  • One count of Child Enticement – Sexual Contact
  • One count of Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child

Formal charges against Villareal have not been filed yet.
