Heavy Snow Arrives Tonight

A strong storm system across the central U.S. will move towards Wisconsin Thursday and Friday. This storm will bring everything from heavy snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain to the area. Very strong winds will also create difficult travel conditions over the next 48 hours. Here is what you can expect from this storm.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Langlade, Forest, and Florence counties until 1:00 AM Friday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the rest of the viewing area.

Tonight: Heavy wet snow will overspread the area this evening and tonight. The snow will create slick road conditions for the Thursday morning commute. By Thursday morning there will likely be 1-4″ of slushy snow on the ground across much of the region. East winds will become gusty through the overnight across the southern portions of the viewing area.

Thursday: Early morning snow will eventually transition over to a wintry mix and then all rain by the afternoon and evening on Thursday. A wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain will create difficult travel conditions into the afternoon mainly north of Green Bay. East winds will become very strong through the day and could gust over 40 mph at times.

Thursday night: The storm system will be moving into southern Minnesota by late Thursday night. Scattered rain showers with a few rumbles of thunder will be possible Thursday evening. Temperatures could remain cool enough for freezing rain north of Green Bay. Winds will begin to lighten as the storm system gets closer to Wisconsin.

Friday: By Friday the storm system will be passing across northwestern Wisconsin. Wrap around snow showers will be possible across the area on Friday. Additional accumulations will remain on the light side. Breezy southwest winds will develop which could gust over 30 mph.

By Friday night the storm system will begin to exit the area with just a few lingering flurries possible.Snowfall accumulations of 3-5″ is expected for Green Bay, Fox Valley, and the lakeshore. Higher snowfall totals over 5″ are possible mainly northwest of Shawano.
