Help Shape the City of Green Bay with S.O.U.P.

Local News

You have an opportunity to help shape the future of the city of Green Bay over a bowl of soup. The Support of Urban Projects or S.O.U.P. program culminates Tuesday, April 24th with a special event where the community votes on funding projects in the city.

Brehanna Skaletski with the Young Professionals Advisory Committee (YPAC) stopped by Local 5 This Morning Wednesday to invite the community to take part in the event.

Greater Green Bay S.O.U.P. is a forum in which community members can share their ideas for how to enhance the quality of life for residents in our communities. Dinner is served at the forum and a micro-grant is awarded to one individual/organization from funds collected at the forum, according to Skaletski.

Located in the Titletown Tap Room William Larsen Event Hall. S.O.U.P is a forum for local community members to share their ideas on how to enhance the quality of life for the residents in our community. Food and beverages will be served and a micro-grant will be awarded to one individual/organization from funds collected at the forum.

Three to five proposals will be heard and the audience will be the decider of who receives the grant. The money from the grant comes from the audience from a $5 admission fee. The grant can start at $500 and could grow to more.

This year’s projects up for the micro-grant include (Re)Storing Hope for youth experiencing crisis and trauma, Mindful Programming for Washington Middle School, Box Truck Pop Up Park, Green Bay Sail & Paddle, and the Kroc Center Pavilion Project.

“S.O.U.P is an event that allows people of all ages with all different interests a place to vote on new possibilities coming to fruition in the community. Each attendee receives a vote, along with your bowl of soup to vote you get to submit for the project you best see fit. The great part about the event is attendees only get one vote but they have now learned about five to movers and shakers in the community! This is an outlet for others to support all projects, not just the project that was voted for,” Skaletski said.

The S.O.U.P. event is Tuesday, April 24th, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. It’s happening at Titletown Brewing – William Larsen Event Hall, 320 N. Broadway St., Green Bay, WI. There is a $5 donation at the door.

This event is all made possible though YPAC.

“The mission of the Mayor’s YPAC is to engage young professionals civically by identifying or creating programmatic or policy opportunities of importance to the young professionals of Green Bay and communicating with our elected officials those issues of importance to us, the young professionals of Green Bay,” Skaletski said.
