Hospitals Will Be Required To Post Service Prices In 2019

Local News

A new rule is going into effect on the first day of the new year that adds transparency to hospital service pricing.

Every hospital in America will have to show a price for every single service they offer, such as going under general anesthesia.

The challenge for hospitals, however, will be showing exact prices, because every patient has a different situation and out-of-pocket costs.

In many cases, that means the prices hospitals will be posting will be different fromwhat patients will truly be paying, depending on their health insurance policy.

Bellin Hospital told Local 5 it has financial counselors to help patients map out exactly what their true cost of a service will be.

This new regulation only applies to hospitals, not clinics like ones where patients visit their primary care doctors.

Wisconsin is a state that already has transparency pricing in place, which you can find here.
