James Kress passes away at the age of 89

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV)  — Members of the Saint Norbert community stated during the college’s graduation ceremony a local figure in the paper industry has died.

The college announced Chairman of Green Bay Packaging James Kress has passed away on Sunday, May 12.

According to Paper Discovery’s website, Kress was a Green Bay native and took over operations for Green Bay Packaging in 1958.

He became the president of the company in 1963 assuming leadership from his father, George Kress, and became the company’s chairman in 1995.

The Kress Events Center is a main fixture on UW-Green Bay’s campus.

The family helped fund the nearly $33 million multi-purpose facility as well as the Kress Library in De Pere.

Kress’ wife –  Julie-Anne Kress – is a member of the Saint Norbert Board of Trustees.

He was 89-years-old when he died.
